Amgawert Republic

Overview

The Amgawert were a reptilian species evolving from Agamid lizards on Wert 6, a world ravaged by a nuclear holocaust. This catastrophic event mutated them, shaping their society and physiology. Their name, Amgawert, translates as "Our People World," with most referring to themselves as Amga. Physically, they stood around 2 meters tall when upright, possessing scaly, greenish skin, a flat head with large black eyes, and no visible ears. Cold-blooded traits made them susceptible to temperature extremes, restricting their habitats. At their zenith, the Amgawert controlled nearly 12.7 million solar systems, a testament to their expansive empire. However, their dependence on specific environmental conditions defined much of their expansionist strategies and technological innovations.

Civil Structure

The Amgawert government evolved over centuries from a democracy to a corrupt oligarchy. Initially, a republic, the system transitioned as officials entrenched themselves, creating a hereditary elite. A thousand families dominated governance, with a hundred forming the High Council, the rest occupying lower councils and judiciary roles. Elections became ceremonial by 2604, with real power concentrated within the oligarchy. The ruling chairman, "The Bearded One," was selected internally. Society reflected the centralized power, with wealth and influence tightly controlled by these elite families. Despite its inefficiencies, this system allowed the Amgawerts to maintain order for centuries until their downfall.

Military

The Amgawert military mandated conscription, with all citizens serving four years and remaining in reserves until 60. Ground forces emphasized "Assault in Echelon," a singular, adaptable strategy for planetary invasions. The navy, focused on space defense, prioritized countering threats to home territories.

Inter-service rivalries between the army and navy hindered military cohesion, particularly regarding the protection of invasion fleets. Despite their vast empire, prolonged peace with the Borthan Empire led to complacency, leaving the military outdated and unprepared for eventual conflicts, notably against the technologically superior Cyber League.

Special Technologies

The hallmark of Amgawert innovation was their climate suits, essential for expansion into less hospitable worlds. Initially designed for the military, these suits enabled survival in temperatures between -150°F (-105.56°C) and 300°F (148.89°C) but required regular recharging. This limitation influenced their invasion tactics, using waves of troops with freshly charged suits. Over time, these suits became available to civilians, facilitating broader colonization efforts. However, the technological stagnation following their peak left the Amgawerts vulnerable during their final years, relying on outdated advancements while the Cyber League exploited their weaknesses.
