Commonwealth of Mamore
Aquatic Annelid Race
Overview
The Mamore were a stable, relaxed, and even-tempered annelid species renowned for their advanced technological exports and aggressive trade policies. Originating on the geologically stable, high-oxygen world of Hydra Alcyon II, the Mamore evolved into massive beings, reaching up to seven meters in length. Their unique culture, shaped by their elongated, intricate language, valued internal harmony but displayed deep xenophobia toward outsiders.
Enslaved by the Alamansuri in 1847, the Mamore revolted in 2210, mastered Alamansuri technology, and expanded into the galaxy through bold colonization and commerce. Their expansionist practices often strained relations with neighbors, culminating in major conflicts such as the Kruzone Mage Wars (2892–2933). The rise of cybernetic adversaries marked their decline, as their heavy dependence on robotic systems became their downfall. After the catastrophic fall of their colonies and homeworlds, the Mamore were extinct by 3781.
Civil Structure
Government
The Mamore operated as a loosely unified commonwealth, with autonomous colonial governors overseeing thousands of worlds under the broad authority of a central administrative body. This decentralized governance allowed rapid terraforming and colonization but made coordinated defense more difficult during crises.
Social Structure
Mamore society was pacifistic internally, valuing sociability and order with remarkably low crime rates. Semi-hermaphroditic by nature, they maintained genetic quality by euthanizing defective offspring. Despite their internal harmony, they displayed extreme xenophobia, distrusting and aggressively resisting non-Mamore entities. Their culture emphasized cautious territorial aggression—avoiding open war when possible, but pushing borders until met with strong opposition.
Military
Ground Forces
Doctrine: Static Forward Defense
Mamore ground forces specialized in constructing deep, fortified border defenses to hold territory for extended periods. Due to their physical awkwardness in combat, they relied heavily on robotic support units, employing autonomous combat drones and fortification systems to offset their limitations in manipulation and maneuver.
Air Forces
The Mamore did not maintain a significant atmospheric air wing, relying instead on robotic ground and space systems.
Stellar Navy
Doctrine: Deny Safety of Enemy Goods and Services
The Mamore navy prioritized interdiction, disrupting enemy trade and supply lines. Fighters were abandoned in the 2500s due to piloting constraints. Instead, their fleet focused on medium-to-large capital ships—cruisers, battlecruisers, battleships, and dreadnoughts—supported by smaller escorts to repel swarm attacks. Small, specialized flotillas conducted long-range raids and planetary assaults, with autonomous robotic systems giving them an early edge in conflicts against more traditional fleets.
Special Technologies
The Mamore’s greatest legacy lies in their mastery of advanced robotics and autonomous weapons systems, which compensated for their physical limitations and powered both their economy and military might. Their technological highlights included:
Advanced Robotics: Multifunctional robots for labor, industry, and military operations.
Autonomous Weapons: Robotic weapons platforms capable of independent action on the battlefield.
Terraforming Technology: Sophisticated planetary engineering tools enabled rapid settlement of new worlds.
Rapid Reproduction Techniques: Accelerated breeding methods and agricultural centers allowed them to maintain massive populations to staff their colonies.
Ironically, this technological edge became their undoing; when cybernetic forces hacked their robotic protocols, the Mamore’s own systems were turned against them, leading to their extinction.
